Rosario Guerrero Hernández
„La Tremendita“
Rosario „La Tremendita“ was born in Seville in 1984 into family of cantaores and bailaores. Her great-grandmother, „La Gandinga de Triana“, was revered for her interpretation of Saetas, religious verses traditionally sung in Andalucía during Holy Week processions. Rosario grew up and continues to live in Triana, a neighborhood historically inhabited by gitanos that has given rise to many flamenco dynasties. La Tremendita was immersed from birth in the sentiment, knowledge, and essence of cante — surrounded by the artistry, rhythm, and magic of duende that has permeated Triana for generations.
From a very early age, Rosario accompanied her father, the cantaor José „El Tremendo“, singing at local fairs and festivals by the time she was five years old. Even as a child she earned the adoration of the public for her special way with cante. La Tremendita uses each verse as a vehicle for expressing deep emotion in a manner that is purely flamenco, yet always unique. She finds ways to be innovative within her art form, while never forgetting her roots. Gifted as a composer as well as a vocalist, La Tremendita draws from and fuses various musical styles, bringing a welcome freshness to the stage by telling a story that is all her own.
La Tremendita has performed in Spain's most prestigious peñas including Los Palacios, Dos Hermanas, and Torremocha de Albaida. In addition to performing at festivals, homages, and competitions, she has made several local and national television appearances as an accompanist and as a soloist. During the course of her career, Rosario has shared the stage with such artists as Manuel Mairena, Chano Lobato, El Nano de Jerez, María Conejo, Gaspar de Urtrera, D. Manuel Bohórquez, José de la Tomasa, Antonio Carrión, Triana Pura, Sara Baras, Francisco Céspedes, Marifé de Triana, María del Monte, and Fangoria.
Rosario received a scholarship to study cante from The Cristiana Heeren Foundation in 1991. She developed her craft and built a solid reputation, garnering awards at numerous competitions including the Turruñuelo (Triana) Cultural Association's Soleá Competition (1999), the Peña Lepanto de Mairena Competition (1999), Triana's Cante Competition for Young Artists (2001), Sevilla's IV Flamenco Cante Competition for Young Artists and Homage to Paco Taranto (2001), and the Antonio Mairena Festival at Mairena del Alcor (2002).
In 2004 La Tremendita received the Manolo Caracol award for her soleá por bulerías at the highly competitive and prestigious XVII National Competition at Córdoba. In 2005, she toured Spain and France, performing in Paris and Toulouse and appearing at the Nimes Flamenco Festival. She also presented her first recital at the Jerez Flamenco Festival.
In 2006, Rosario began working with bailaora and choreographer Belén Maya, touring with „Dibujos“, a show staged to critical acclaim throughout Europe and the Americas. In 2007, again in collaboration with Belén Maya, she joined the spectacular „Souvenir“, a co-production with the renowned El Mercat de les Flors of Barcelona. La Tremendita also works with the bailaora Roció Molina in the production „Por el decir de la gente“, while keeping a full schedule of recitals throughout Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Mexico.
